06/25/2005: "National Park Service opens up parking at Canaveral (Florida)"
News release from NPS -
Carol A. Clark - Park Superintendent
June 22, 2005
SEASHORE'S NORTH DISTRICT PARKING AREA 5 TO REOPEN ON WEEKENDS BEGINNING JUNE 25, 2005.
Canaveral National Seashore announced today that the North District
Apollo parking area number 5 will re-open on a weekend basis
beginning June 25, 2005.
Park Superintendent Carol Clark said, "the area 5 boardwalk
replacement has progressed to a point where it may be re-opened to
our visitors during weekend hours". The area closed April 18th for
an estimated period of approximately 8 weeks in order to ensure
visitor safety and protect fragile resources during the rebuilding
process.
Superintendent Clark further stated that "inclement weather has
delayed the anticipated completion date, so we are taking this step
to provide full access to the entire parking area during peak
visitation periods when maintenance crews are not actively working
on the project."
Seashore staff believe the improvements to the lot 5 area will be
well received and make the temporary inconvenience worth the wait.
Boardwalks are routinely replaced on a cyclic basis in order to
counter the effects of weather, age, and storm damage such as last
year's unprecedented hurricane season.
The National Park Service cares for the special places saved by the
American people so that all may experience our heritage.
